Wagner Moura Earns Two Nominations at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards

Brazilian actor Wagner Moura has secured two major nominations at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards, one of the most influential events of the Hollywood awards season and a frequent predictor of the Oscars. The ceremony will take place on January 4, 2026.

Moura is nominated for Best Actor for his performance in The Secret Agent, competing alongside some of the most acclaimed actors of the moment: Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon). His presence in such a competitive category underscores his growing traction within the international film landscape.

Brazil is further represented by director Kleber Mendonça Filho, whose film The Secret Agent is nominated for Best International Film, alongside It Was Just an Accident, The Left-Handed Girl, No Other Choice, Sirat, and Belén.

BRAZIL IN INTERNATIONAL CINEMA

Organized by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), the Critics Choice Awards are often seen as an indicator of how the awards season may unfold. Though not a direct predictor of Oscar outcomes, they frequently influence momentum and visibility ahead of the 2026 Academy Awards, scheduled for March 15, 2026.

With two nominations and a Brazilian film among the international contenders, Moura and Mendonça Filho reaffirm Brazil’s presence in a highly competitive global season, one that increasingly opens space for diverse narratives and creative voices from around the world.
